Congratulations to Rachel Mallon and Thomas Sims from 5th year for receiving their gold awards from Bishop Nulty at the John Paul II ceremony on 6th December. They are the first Scoil Dara students to receive this award and we are so proud of them. Well done Rachel and Thomas.

Congratulations to Nambitha Maruthi (2nd Year) on receiving 2nd prize in the STEM Poster Competition "Believe in Science" during Science Week (13th – 17th November). She entered the contest organised by Carlow IT along with others from her science class. All of the work of the finalists can be viewed on the "Eureka Science and Technology Festival" facebook page.

There were many events taking place in Scoil Dara during Science Week. A guest speaker, Sean Mooney from TCD (past pupil) came in to lecture all 2nd Years on ‘Earth Science and the Solar System’. Brian Treacy (past pupil) also came in to talk about his project with The European Space Agency. There were various other activities during Science Week for students such as poster competitions and quizzes.

We joined hundreds of schools across Ireland during Stand Up Awareness Week taking a stand against LGBTI+ bullying. Scoil Dara is an inclusive school. Together we create a safer, more supportive school environment for all of our young people.

Ethan Devine completed his Leaving Cert in June 2017 and in recognition of his very high level of achievement in GAA, Scoil Dara would like to congratulate him on being awarded a GAA Sport Scholarship from Maynooth University in September. Congratulations also to Daniel Devine who, as a result of his high performance in his Leaving Cert Examinations, has been selected for an Entrance Exhibition Award in Trinity College Dublin.

Maths Week in Scoil Dara

Scoil Dara organised many maths activities in school during Maths Week (16th – 20th October). Senior Students undertook a PRISM contest (Problem solving for Second level Mathematicians) and maths puzzles and games took place in class for all students.
